Did you know there’s actually a National Unicorn Day? I had absolutely no idea until I googled it on a whim.
It’s April 9.
I guess I should have saved this book review for the spring, but it’s too darn cute to wait that long.

Why I Like This Book
I know there are a ton of unicorn books out there, but honestly, this one is just so sweet and lovely, with all the right messages, that I couldn’t resist it!
The story is all about having fun, acceptance of others, and friendship. You can’t beat that.
And the colours! Oh my … I just LOVE the illustrations. The art was ALL sketched and painted in Photoshop, which just blows me away. I work a lot in Illustrator and Photoshop and it’s a TON of work. I can’t even image the time it took to illustrate an entire book in that medium!
Unicorn Activities:
MATH: Miniature Masterminds has a FREE 40-page unicorn themed math booklet for Kindergarten/Grade 1. You definitely need to grab this.
POETRY: Kenn Nesbitt has a delightful poem called I Rode a Rainbow Unicorn. Visit his site and print out the poem.
SCIENCE: Natural Beach Living has a fun fizzy unicorn experiment that kids are sure to love. You’ll need a unicorn freezer mold for this one, but it looks like it would be worth the small investment.
ART: Here’s a super cute “How to Draw a Unicorn” tutorial by Easy Peasy and Fun.
WRITING: 123 Homeschool 4 Me has a set of sweet unicorn writing prompts. They’re totally free!
BAKING: These unicorn cupcakes from My Kids Lick the Bowl are irresistible looking! They wouldn’t be suitable to bake in the classroom, but they’d be fun to BRING to the classroom 🙂
