Inside: You’ll find directions for making a cute St. Patrick’s Day stamp painting. This is an updated post.
St. Patrick’s Day will soon be here and it’s always fun to have a few quick and easy crafts up your sleeve.
We’re all familiar with potato stamping, right? But have you ever tried painting with bell peppers?
If not, then now’s your chance. When you slice a bell pepper horizontally the inside looks like a shamrock — it’s magical!
Here’s what my first grade class came up with:
Omit the leprechaun if you like, because a page full of shamrocks is beautiful all on its own.
Let’s get started.
ART SUPPLIES:
- Large white paper (we used photocopy paper)
- 1 or 2 bell peppers (colour doesn’t matter)
- Green tempera paint (I like this brand)
- Plate or plastic lid to hold the paint
- Leprechaun printable
- Crayons, scissors, glue
5 EASY STEPS:
- Dip the cut side of your pepper into the green paint and carefully stamp your shamrock designs onto your paper (you may want to practice this on scrap paper first).
- Repeat as many times as you like.
- While your shamrocks are drying, colour your little leprechaun.
- Cut out your leprechaun.
- Glue your leprechaun onto your dried field of shamrocks.
You’re done!
This St. Patrick’s Day craft couldn’t be easier, and the paintings will look so cheerful hanging around your classroom.
EXTENSIONS:
- Make shamrock patterns in different colours
- Stamp out a shamrock bookmark
- Add a speech bubble to your leprechaun and print something he might be saying (see the example in the bottom image).
Before you go you can find two more St. Paddy’s Day posts here.
