I’ve been busy creating all sorts of fun stuff to help you celebrate Father’s Day.
I have four wonderful Dad books, a Dad word search and some new puppets to share with you today.
BOOKS ABOUT DAD
I Love Dad by Eric Carle (2017) is a sweet and simple book celebrating animal dads. It’s perfect for 2-5 year olds.
Each page features a different animal and its offspring, with the hungry caterpillar making an appearance on every page, too!
My Dad by Anthony Brown (2000, ages 3-8) is a “warm and funny tribute to dads everywhere” (book flap).
The narrator highlights the slightly exaggerated virtues and heroics of his own dad, who isn’t afraid of anything, and can jump over the moon, walk on tightropes, wrestle giants, eat like a horse and so much more!
The illustrations are delightful with all the various characters dressed in dad’s plaid bathrobe. If you’re a Browne fan (and even if you’re not) you’ll probably love this book!
Pet Dad by Elanna Allen (2018, ages 3-8) is very cute and whimsical, as you can imagine by the title.
Plum wants a pet but her dad does NOT. So Plum pretends her dad is a dog. He loves playtime, tummy rubs and scratches, but does NOT like sitting, fetching, or chasing. Plum is exasperated with her uncooperative pet. But with practice she learns that patience and kindness go a long way.
This is a funny book with a heart-warming and satisfying ending. I loved it!
Alfie and Dad by Shirley Hughes (2017, ages 4-8) is one in a series of Alfie books. It’s a picture book with a collection of three separate short stories, each one focused on the relationship between Alfie, his sister Annie Rose, and dad.
The stories are all very realistic and deal with common little kid problems like losing your favourite toy, being scared of what’s under the bed, and solving the mystery of a strange cat.
This warm and loving book is the perfect read on Father’s Day.

PUPPETS FOR FATHER’S DAY
I just finished making this set of puppets. I think they’d be perfect to make and play with any old time, but especially suitable when celebrating dad!
You could even turn the puppet into a Father’s Day card. It would be so easy to add a little poem or message to dad on the back of the puppet.
There’s a choice of 5 different faces, with and without glasses, so your kiddos can find a man that looks most like their own dad 🙂
I’ve include both black and white plus color templates.
