Hi Friends!
I have a super easy Valentine art project for you.
I’m probably a bit late for this year, but if you’re a last-minute person like me, then maybe this idea will come in handy.
I saw this project in an elementary school I was in the other day. I have no idea which grade level made them, but the school only goes to Grade 5. I think Grade 1 and up could easily handle it.
Here’s my version of what I saw:

Isn’t that pretty? And so simple. I thought it was a marvellous idea!
DIRECTIONS:
- Choose a background paper (they used black construction paper)
- Cut white paper 1/4 the size of the background paper
- Give everyone 1 background sheet and 2 quarter-sized white sheets
- Cover each white sheet in polka dots. I used a watercolour effect but your students could use markers, crayons, paints, pastels, or even bingo daubers in a variety of colours.
- Fold each paper in half, draw half a heart shape, and carefully cut out the heart, leaving the rest of the paper intact.
- Then glue the two 2 hearts and the 2 reverse images onto the paper.
NOTE:
For younger students you may need to give them 1/2 heart tracers so that they all have recognizable heart shapes 🙂
And for everyone I would model how to cut the heart shape from the folded edge. That can be tricky for some kids to grasp.
Here’s another version on red paper:

Which is your favourite? Black or red?
I hope this last minute super easy Valentine art project is helpful to someone.
