Alphabet animal puppets have an array of surprising benefits for young children. In addition to helping make learning fun, interactive and engaging there are a multitude of wonderful advantages.
Before I list those advantages, I want to give you sneak peek of my new set of ABC paper bag puppets:
This adorable set is now in my shop. But first … let’s look at all the reasons using puppets with young children is such a great idea.
10 BENEFITS OF USING ALPHABET ANIMAL PUPPETS WITH YOUNG CHILDREN
1. Enhanced Engagement: As mentioned in the intro, puppets capture children’s attention through their playful and animated characters. They make learning the alphabet more enjoyable and memorable, which in turn encourages a positive attitude towards learning.
2. Letter Recognition: An alphabet animal puppet set can be used to introduce each letter of the alphabet in a fun and interactive way. Children can see, hear, and play with the puppet representing each letter, which helps reinforce letter recognition skills.
3. Phonics and Language Development: Puppets can be used to make letter sounds and phonetic associations. Children can use the puppets to model their teacher or parent demonstrating the correct pronunciation of sounds and phonemes, which helps them understand the relationship between letters and their sounds.
4. Storytelling and Imagination: Puppets can be characters in stories or narratives that involve the alphabet. Children can use their imaginations to tell their own stories or scenarios involving the puppet characters and letters.
5. Motor Skills: Colouring, cutting and gluing the alphabet animal puppets together all involves using fine motor skills. This helps children develop dexterity and coordination in their hands and fingers.
6. Social and Emotional Development: Using puppets encourages social interaction and communication skills. Some kids might like to talk to the puppets or with others through role-playing, which helps build confidence and expressive language abilities.
7. Multi-Sensory Learning: Puppets provide a multi-sensory learning experience by combining visual, auditory, and tactile elements. This approach can cater to different learning styles and reinforce learning through multiple channels.
8. Creativity and Expression: Puppets can spark creativity in children as they use them to create stories, songs, or games related to the alphabet. This creative expression supports cognitive development and imagination.
9. Motivation and Confidence: Interacting with a puppet in phonics activities can boost children’s motivation and confidence. They may feel more comfortable making mistakes or trying new sounds when interacting with a puppet compared to a teacher or peer.
10. Transition to Literacy: By making learning the alphabet interactive and enjoyable, puppets can help prepare children for formal literacy instruction. They can develop a positive association with letters and learning, laying a solid foundation for reading and writing skills.
Alphabet puppets are valuable educational tools that engage young children in learning the alphabet through play, storytelling, and interactive experiences. They support various aspects of child development, including language skills, motor skills, social interaction, and creativity.

MY ALPHABET ANIMAL PAPER BAG PUPPETS
Here’s a look at all the puppets that are included in my ABC Puppet set. The umbrella bird is one creature I wasn’t even aware of until I made this set. Isn’t his little red “tie” adorable?
Each one of these puppets can be purchased individually for just $2 BUT if you buy the whole set you save an amazing amount! You can get the entire set of 26 puppets (normally $52) for just $9.99. Kind of a no-brainer 🙂
I’ve also included some extra goodies.
For each puppet there are two black and white writing sheets. One without lines for drawing pictures related to the animal or beginning letter and one with lines for printing practice. Each sheet also includes a matching animal.
But that’s not all!
You also get these cute little labels to add to the puppets. It’s easy to glue them to the back of the puppet with or without the printing/drawing sheets.
I hope you’ll give puppets a try in YOUR classroom!
