Inside: Lots of fire safety activities for first grade. Free printables.
Last week we focused on fire safety. I almost always introduce a new theme with a poem. Here’s a free copy of “I’m a Little Firefighter”.
We started out by reading these two books:
And throughout the week we watched a variety of fire safety videos from YouTube. This one from Harry Kindergarten was the kids’ favourite:
We made these fire safety books which are perfect for beginning Grade 1. I got the free booklet from First Grade Garden.
Most of my kids’ writing is in their journals, but I always like to include some directed writing when appropriate so that they can practice sight words, spacing, punctuation and proper sentence formation.
Tammy, from Forever in First, is the queen of class books and this one below is her idea. We’re partway through our class. I write down five a day and when I’m finished I’ll type out individual pages that the kids can illustrate. This will be our second class book of the year. I’m on a roll!
I introduced these two math games to the kids and they were a huge hit! It was also great for me because I was able to walk around with my clipboard and observe who was counting the dots from one, and who was counting on from the largest number.
I made Fire Fighter BUMP just a few days ago. Feel free to grab it, if you missed that post.
Stop, Drop and Roll from Lory’s Page was also very popular. She also has this free math game called Stay Low and Go!
Three years ago I wrote a book review of My Mom is a Fire Fighter where I share lots of poems, freebies and other fun ideas.
I also reviewed Robert Munsch’s The Fire Station and included some more ideas and freebies there, too.

Hey, thanks for the mention. I hope the kids love this class book. I haven't made this one yet, but of course it's on my list. 🙂
Thank YOU for the inspiration:)
