Christmas Gift for Kids to Make

Inside: An easy Christmas gift and card for kids to make plus a book review: The Christmas Wish.

A snowman ornament DIY gift and DIY Christmas card with fingerprint light bulbs.

I know I’m a little late … okay, a LOT late for the Christmas posts but I haven’t had any time until now!

Here are the gifts my kids made for their parents. I just love these!  Mostly because they’re so cute, but also because they’re super easy to do.

Snowman Ornaments:

The snowmen are the kids’ finger prints (with white tempera paint).  I painted their fingers and thumb and carefully wrapped their hand around the ornament. I sort of pressed their hand for a bit so that all the paint would stick and then they carefully peeled off their hand.

After the paint dried they used thick black Sharpies to add the snowmen details.

The last step was adding some glue and glitter to the top for a little dazzle and and then tying on some ribbon.

Light Bulb Cards:

I bought a stack of cheap white cards from Michaels and then pre-drew the wire with a Sharpie.

My students took turns dipping their fingers in tempera paint to make the coloured light bulbs. A super easy step but I DID have to closely supervise to make sure they used the correct amount of paint and got them in the right spots.

When the cards were dry the kids decorated the inside however they liked.

You can see all the photos in the top image.

On another note, we also read this very sweet Christmas book

The Christmas Wish Book

The Christmas Wish by Lori Evert. A brief book review plus a related activity. Also, snowman ornament DIY gift and DIY Christmas card with fingerprint light bulbs.

Have you read The Christmas Wish by Lori Evert?  OMG!! It was so beautiful. A good buddy gave me a copy and I just love it. It’s a circular journey about a little girl, Anja, who goes off to the North Pole to be one of Santa’s elves. She has help along the way from a variety of friendly animals.

I have to admit the writing seemed a little stiff at times, but the sweet story and amazingly gorgeous pictures more than made up for that.

I highly recommend  this book!

After we read the book I had the kids draw and label a map of Anja’s journey. I think they did a fabulous job!
