Combinations to Ten Game

We’ve been working hard this week on combinations to 10.

We spent one math lesson building the combos using unifix cubes in two different colours. The kids worked in groups of 3.

It’s so cute and funny how excited they get when the see the staircase pattern forming.

Today the kids did the same thing again, except this time they glued coloured paper squares. This took quite a while, even though I’d precut the paper.

After everyone was finished, we looked at our papers together and wrote the combinations to 10.

Tomorrow, we’re going to play a game to practice even more!

Our curriculum doesn’t require our Grade 1 students to memorize any facts. They just need to have a really strong working knowledge.

But I always hope they start to memorize some anyway. This game should give them some added practice.
