Peace Plates

Yesterday I read my class What Does Peace Feel Like? and then we made our peace plates!

I LOVE these peace plates. They're so beautiful but easy to do.

I used plain white plates ... those very flimsy ones from the dollar store. I put masking tape on them ahead of time. I was very careful to make sure that all the edges were down so that no paint would seep through.

The kids used their water colours. All I told them was to cover the entire plate and that they could use any colour except black, brown or gray.

After their paintings dried, I carefully peeled off the tape, then outlined their peace signs with a black sharpie.

Couldn't be easier!

  9. I had to experiment with different plates - masking tape would not peel cleanly off the cheap uncoated plates. The tempera paint we used didn't stick well to the coated plates, it beaded up. :/ We still got some nice plates because 3 and 4 year olds are persistent with paint! Many layers later the color stayed. :)

    1. Oh, I'm sorry you had so much trouble but glad it finally worked out :)
We used smooth white plates but they weren't coated with anything.
We also used water colour paint, not tempera, and it coated quickly and easily. They were just the cheap kids' paint.
