I am a HUGE dog lover, so when I found this book at the local library I had to grab it!
TITLE: A Small Brown Dog With a Wet Pink Nose
AUTHOR: Stephanie Stuve-Bodeen
ILLUSTRATOR: Linzie Hunter
PUBLISHER: Little, Brown Books for Young Readers, 2010
TOPIC/THEME: Dogs, Dog Adoption, Parent-Child (Fiction)
BRIEF SYNOPSIS:
Amelia is determined to have her own dog, but her parents aren’t so sure. This resourceful little girl finds a clever and funny way to convince her parents to let her adopt a dog.
WHY I LIKE THIS BOOK:
Because I was exactly like Amelia when I was young. I begged and begged and begged my parents for years until I finally got my very first dog ~ Muggins, the sweetest, prettiest little Boston Terrier in the world!!
And I haven’t been without a dog since.
They’ve all been either found or rescued, so I especially love how the author promotes animal adoption; the only way to go as far as I’m concerned π
OPENING:
Amelia wanted a dog. But not just any dog. Every day she asked her parents, “May I have a small brown dog with a wet pink nose? Every day the reply was the same.”Oh, no,” said Amelia’s mother.Β Amelia’s father added, “We’re just not ready for a dog.”
RESOURCES:
1. Check out Deep Space Sparkle for a dog art lesson. They don’t all have pink noses, but they’re awfully cute!
2. Here’s an easy step-by-step dog drawing lesson:
3. This book is perfect to read and discuss as a prelim to writing letters of persuasion. It would be fun to have your kids write a letter to their parents trying to convince them to let them get an animal of their choice.
4. You could also have the kids draw and write a description of their own invisible dog.
5. Visit your local SPCA, rescue centre or dog pound to see how you can help. You don’t have to adopt a dog: You can donate supplies or money or even sign up to walk some rescues.

I wasn't ready for a dog – but he was ready for us and came and sat in front of my classroom door until we took him home. He was a big brown dog with a wet pink and black nose.Sounds like another great book.sandirubberboots and elf shoes
