Mad Scientist Monday ~ Gummy Bears

Grade ONEderful: Gummy Bear experiment
Click on the mad scientist to find my previous experiments.

I was going to start my year with a forest unit, but I've decided to go with bears instead. My first experiment for this unit is all about gummy bears. I know! It won't teach the kids anything about bears themselves, but it's fun! It involves food! And it's all about the science process, right?

The experiment is super simple: Give everyone a gummy bear, a cup and some water. Soak the bears overnight and watch what happens!  Of course, it's important to measure the bears first and make hypotheses (will the bears shrink? grow? stay the same?)

Here are some sheets to get you started:

  1. I use science kits from my district towards the end of the year, but if I can find time, I'd love to do some of these kinds of shorter experiments throughout the year. Thanks for giving me lots of great ideas.
